PLAYER EVALUATIONS & DRAFT

Q: What are Evaluations?

A: Evaluations allow our Managers, Player Agents, and Board Members to assess your player's ability and make an appropriate division selection.

Q: Who needs to attend Evaluations?

A: All players who are league age 7 and above.  To be eligible for the Double AA Draft at League Age 6 you MUST attend and participate in an evaluation. If a player who is League Age 6 does not attend evaluations, they will automatically be placed on a Single A team.

Q: When are Evaluations?

A: Evaluations scheduled weeks before opening day.  Please check our  calendar for scheduled events.

Q: What happens at Evaluations?

A: On the day of evaluation, each player will need to check in and receive a bib number indicating their league age and assigned number. Players are given time to warm up in the outfield area.  When required, players are taken to the field where they will be evaluated on the following: (1) batting, (2) fielding fly balls, (3) fielding ground balls, (4) throwing, and (5) base running.

Q: Can I request a coach?

A: Coach requests are only available for T-ball and Single A Divisions for Spring Season.  We try to accommodate all requests for Fall Season.

Q: My player is in the upper divisions, but I do not want them playing with or coached by...

A: Divisions AA and up adhere to the NLL draft rules, where only sibling requests will be accepted and reviewed (these requests are not guaranteed).  All requests must be submitted in writing or by email at least 30 days before Draft Day.
Send requests to the Player Agent

SEASON EXPECTATIONS

Top of Form

Q: What equipment does my child need to play Little League?

A: Your child will need a baseball helmet, baseball bat, baseball glove, baseball pants, and molded cleats. Intermediate/Junior/Senior Divisions can wear metal cleats. Your child will also need a belt, socks and maybe additional baseball pants to match the team's uniform - the team manager will notify you when the season starts. In addition, boys will need a cup underwear and cup. These MUST be worn to all baseball activities including evaluations, practices, and games. The league provides catcher's equipment. Other gear that you may want to consider are baseball bag, batting gloves, long sleeve dri-fit for the evening games.

Please note all bats must have the USA baseball mark Click Here.

Q: How long is the Little League Season?

A: The NLL season runs from mid-February through late-May/early June with games beginning the beginning of March.

Q: Why do some Little League teams play in the summer?

A: For participants playing in the competitive divisions (all divisions except tee ball and A) there are 2 post-season opportunities:

  1. District 72 Tournament of Champions (TOC) - The winning team in AAA - Senior divisions will represent NLL in the TOC. TOC is usually held early to mid-May – mid June.
  2. All-Star  and Future Star Games

Q: What is included with the League Fees?

A: The registration fees pay for the player's team jersey and hat, basic picture package, umpires, lights, and year-end participation award. All Stars  and Future Stars and associated costs are NOT included in the League Fees. There is a separate Fee Requirement for participation in All Stars and Future Stars.

Q: How many games/practices can we expect?

A: A 12-16 game regular season with at least one practice per week. There will be one or two games per week for non-competitive divisions and two or three games per week for all competitive divisions.

Q: Where are the games and practices?

A: Most games and practices will be held at Wayne Makin.  Practices will be held at Wayne Makin, Parmenter Park, Clark Field or Community Field. The upper divisions may have to travel to inter-league games.

Q: Can I request a particular team or coach for my player?

A: Yes, for the non-competitive divisions only, Tee Ball and Single A. You can enter your coach and/or player request in the special request/comments section during registration or send an email directly to the player agent. The player agent will try to accommodate your request, but it is not guaranteed. All teams in the competitive divisions are formed by a draft so no team or coach requests will be accepted.

A: Feel free to speak with or email a member from the NLL Board. We will do our best to help!

VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION FAQ

VOLUNTEER FAQ

We always need volunteers to run the league whether it's a coach, team parent coordinator, snack bar volunteer or board member. So don't hesitate to sign up and help out.

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENT

Q: As a Volunteer do I need a background check?

A: Yes. All managers, coaches, Board of Directors members, umpires, Team Moms, scorekeepers, and other volunteers who have regular service to the league or repetitive access to children must complete the JDP background check process. If a volunteer is spending time in the dugout or helping out at practices, that individual must also complete a Live Scan back ground check. It’s important to remember that volunteer appointments are for one year only and that every year, all individuals volunteering at the local level must go through the JDP background check process again.

Little League’s Regulation I (c) 8 and 9. - Little League Volunteer Background Checks
*Background checks are valid from October 1st through September 30th of the following year. This means that regardless of when your last background check was completed, you will need to renew it after October 1st each year.

Q: If I pass my background check, do I still need to take the Abuse Awareness Training for Adults?

A: YES.  Any individual who applies to be a Little League volunteer (e.g. coach, manager, team mom, League President, etc.) is required to complete the Little League Abuse Awareness Course in addition to all other requirements of being a volunteer (e.g. submitting a background check through JDP). As a reminder, this course must be completed on an annual basis along with the annual background check before that individual may begin their volunteer service.

Q: How often do I need a background check / Abuse awareness training?

A: Both background checks and Abuse awareness training expire on October 1st of each year. Regardless of when your background check is completed, it will expire the following October 1st. To maintain active volunteer status, a new background check and Abuse awareness training is needed.

Q: What is the Diamond Leader Program?

A: Focused on ensuring children have a positive, well-rounded experience on and off the field, the Little League® Diamond Leader Training Program is a FREE educational resource that provides coaches with an understanding of the impact that mental, social, and emotional well-being has in youth sports through detailed information, interactive scenarios, and a variety of additional resources.
